Ingress Protection (IP) testing, also known as IP code testing or IP certification, is a standardized testing procedure used to determine the level of protection provided by an enclosure against the intrusion of solid particles and water. The IP rating is a two-digit code, such as IP67 or IP54, that indicates the degree of protection offered by the enclosure. The IP rating comprises two numbers: the first digit represents the level of protection against solid objects (dust, dirt, etc.), and the second digit represents the level of protection against water. Let's look at each digit in detail: Protection against Solid Objects (first digit): 0 : No protection 1 : Protection against solid objects larger than 50 mm (e.g., the back of a hand) 2 : Protection against solid objects larger than 12.5 mm (e.g., fingers) 3 : Protection against solid objects larger than 2.5 mm (e.g., tools, wires) 4 : Protection against solid objects larger than 1 mm (e.g., small tools, wires) 5 : Dust protecte
